The National youth Summit for the counties within North Rift Region was held on the 26th of October 2012 at the wagon hotel. The participants were drawn from six(6) counties (Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, TransNzoia, and West Pokot. The summit began with explanation on the motive and purpose of the nationwide county forums. This was well articulated by the Emmanuel Dennis from National Youth Sector Alliance (NYSA). He emphasized that the National Youth Summit 2012 will bring together about 2000 young leaders from the 47 counties in Kenya to inspire pride patriotism and social cohesion among the young people of this country.
This was followed by Mr. Musyoki Kivindyo Director, Strategic Communications, of Brand Kenya Board. He largely elaborated on the role of young people in building a strong country brand that fosters national pride patriotism and earns global recognition and preferences. The young people were deeply inspired to take up this role as brand ambassadors in ensuring that Kenya is positioned optimally in terms of investment, creditworthiness, tourism and international relations.
On this foundation, the young Accountable Leaders were inspired to take leadership roles in various sectors that our society provides. This was facilitated by William from Transform Kenya who guided the young leaders on what it takes to be a true leader. This presentation highlighted key items known as the 5Cs; namely CONCILLIATORY/ Peacemaker, CHARACTER, COMPETENCE, COMPELLING VISION and CARING. He advised that the youth vet themselves alongside those 5Cs.
On this account, the young people were taken through the five guiding ideals for peace and core practices. This was facilitated by Arthur Oyange from Global Peace youth corp (GPYC). He agitated that the foundation of peace and good governance lies in the hearts and minds of human beings. It requires the transformation of human minds, hearts and concepts. This was reiterated by Mr. Liban guyo from NCIC.
